With over 100,000 employees, the Federal Employment Agency (BA) is the largest public authority in Germany and the primary service provider in the training and labor market. With its service portfolio, it supports citizens, companies and politicians in all matters relating to employment, basic security and family benefits. It focuses in particular on advising and promoting players in the labor market, job and training placement and the provision of financial benefits such as unemployment benefits, child benefit and short-time compensation. The BA is represented throughout Germany by 150 employment agencies in 600 branches, 300 job centers and around 100 family benefits offices.

With around 180,000 networked PCs and over 100 of its own IT applications, the BA operates one of the largest IT landscapes in Germany via its internal IT service provider, the BA's IT system house with its main location in Nuremberg and around 2,000 employees, and is constantly developing it further. To fulfill its statutory duties, it relies on a high degree of in-house software development - a challenge that it meets by consistently taking innovation, resilience, security and cost-effectiveness into account. Agile methods, cloud technology and AI are three current examples that the BA‘s IT department is pursuing in the long term. As an ISO27001-certified IT operation based on IT baseline protection, the BA attaches great importance to information security.
